Daniel R. Southard papers, 1818-1832.

Collection consists of the business correspondence (mainly handwritten copies) and accounts of Daniel Southard. Early correspondence (1819) between Southard and his business partner, D. Starr, document problems faced by merchants during the Panic of 1819. Later correspondence (1825-1827) between Southard and various lawyers and representatives covers debt settlement, mortgage filing and executing, lawsuits, and the purchase and transfer of property. Includes several "accounts current" sheets for Southard and Starr, as well agreement between James Southard and John J. Crittenden for legal work in 1832.

Samuel Richardson (1744?-1838) was a tavern keeper in the Greenville section of Leicester, Mass. In 1781 he married Elizabeth Newton (1765-1840) of Paxton, Mass. Samuel Richardson died on 11 October 1838. Their daughter Polly (1780-1868) married Amasa Southwick (1778-1867) in 1810. They had four children: Edward (1812-1867), who married Anna H.
